About Dr. Sabad-e Gul
I’m excited to share with you that I am running to be your Calgary Board of Education Trustee for Wards 12 & 14.
As a PhD educator, postdoctoral researcher, and university instructor, I bring the training and experience to understand how board decisions directly impact classrooms, teachers, and students.
I am proud of the work I have accomplished throughout my career. I am the author of the book “The demand and importance of photonic sensors” (available on Amazon), and I have published more than 17 peer reviewed journal articles in recognized international journals. Over the years, I have also had the privilege of presenting my work at several international conferences, engaging with experts from around the world and contributing to important conversations in education and innovation.
But beyond my academic background, I am also a mother of two children. I know first hand the hopes and concerns parents carry for their kids’ education. My vision is to bring both expertise and empathy to this role ensuring smaller class sizes, stronger supports for teachers, and schools where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Dr. Sabad-e Gul’s Priorities
Dr. Sabad-e Gul is committed to transforming education by advocating for equitable funding, modernized classrooms, and accessible resources for every student. My vision includes empowering teachers, supporting innovative learning methods, and ensuring no child is left behind.
Evidence based solutions I propose
Problem: Traditionally the CBE has running shortfalls.
Solution: Organizational Review – I believe we must hire a private outside agency such as Deloitte to conduct a complete review of the CBE to find out cost savings, reduce duplication and become more efficient.
Problem: The Education Minister in 2020 ordered an audit of the CBE for running a shortfall and this was because of “reckless misuse of taxpayer dollars”. The province provided additional 20.6 million in funding that year. Also when compared to other school boards, the CBE has the highest administrative costs.
Solution: All major expenditures such as long term office lease needs to be more transparent and accountable with an opportunity for public input as it is public dollars.
Problem: We are purchasing our supplies from Ontario.
Solution: I would propose a Calgary First / Alberta First and approved Vendors List which will help us contribute to our local economy and tax base, which funds the CBE.
Problem: Our Teachers are overworked and underpaid.
Solution: I will bring back the Teacher / Executive Assistant program in full force. Our teachers need support and our Province and School Boards can work together if we take a collaborative, rather than an an adversarial approach. I will ensure whether it would be from the CBE or lobbying the Province that
Teachers will get the respect they deserve.
